Oscar Wilde is the Godfather of satirical comedy with classics like "The Importance of being Earnest" and "A woman of no importance". Wilde talks about the upper class downfall, aristrocracy, gender roles, relationships issues, conversations that would have never been spoken about publicly. But Wilde turns British Comedy upside down, now satirical comedy has been re-invented and revolutionized, with leaders like Sasha Baron Cohen and Rowan Atkinson(Mr. Bean), Stephen Colbert, Matt Groening, in the spotlight tickling our funny bones with their play on social, political and even religious satire. Some wish to be straight edges and label their work as "controversial" but whatever happened to laughing at ourselves?
Other satire shows:
The Simpsons
The Boondocks
The Colbert Report
Saturday Night Live
But yet we do not acknowledge their worth and get offended by the truth, so society enables minstrel shows to keep us stupid. But we're human we know better, you either feed into it and say fuck it or you choose to live above the influence. Too many satirical comedies now and days are just desensitized crap and follow this mold of what society wants and that defeats the point of satire, just a complete oxymoron.
